Student Nomination Story
I’ve had somewhere around 29 teachers in my life but never one as good as him. Mr. Reams is not only a teacher but a helping hand, a supporter, a listening ear, and an all around great guy. For the past two years I’ve been lucky enough to have him as a teacher, therefore this might be a little lengthy. Last year was a rough year in the heath department of my life I was constantly in and out of the doctors office and physical therapy all while doing what I love, playing softball. Being a student athlete while maintaining a good GPA and going to many doctors visits is very difficult in this generation and Mr. Reams was my only teacher to understand that. I remember being overly stressed out about homework staying up to finish my homework until one day I didn’t do it. When I got to Mr. Reams class room I told him about what had been going on and why I didn’t do my homework. He was very understanding and made a deal with me so that I didn’t have to stress out about doing my homework in his class every night. He told me as long as I did good on my test I could turn it in within the 6 week grading periods. Mr.Reams is also very involved with our high schools sports. Although he has kids at home he tries his best to make it to his students' high school sports game. As a player on my high school's softball team many parents can’t make it to games to support their children. From experience I know that even if it’s just your teacher there to support you it means the world. Mr. Reams absolutely loves to help everyone he helps our schools student athletes with NCAA eligibility and walks them through the process but also loves to help with something he feels very passionate about. Every year my school raises money for an organization called pennies for patients. Mr. Reams never thinks twice about telling us a the story of how he lost his dad to lymphoma and often raises one of the tops amounts of money in the school for the organization. Saving the best for last Mr. Reams doesn’t just care about his students grades but also their mental health. Earlier this year he told his classes that he understands that sometimes we all need a minute. He went on to say that if you're ever overwhelmed or having a rough day or just need to step outside that during class you can motion to him and he’ll gladly let you step out. He said that if we need someone to talk to he can try his best to help or send you to a counselor. Mr. Reams has truly shown me what a teacher should be like and inspired me to one day be a teacher just like him.
