Receives $5,000 cash and story by award-winning author

Nathan Miller, a high school history teacher at Founders Classical Academy, has been given the prestigious Honored National Teaching Award for October 2024. As part of his honor, Miller received a $5,000 cash award and was profiled by Orion Rummler, a journalist at The 19th News.

Miller encourages students to ask big questions and helps them find truth in the world by shaping them into critical thinkers. His approach is rooted in showing unconditional love and seeing the heart in what students do. Miller brings creativity and fun into his classroom, using engaging methods to make challenging concepts accessible and relatable for his students.

Miller was nominated for the Honored award by his student Isaac Grandy, who credits Miller for positively transforming his school experience. For Grandy, a 10th grader with autism, daily school interactions can be exhausting. However, Miller’s Western civilization class has become a place of solace for Grandy, allowing him to be comfortable being his true self. As Grandy explained, “Mr. Miller definitely sees the good in me and in everyone else who comes into his classroom, whether they’re actually a student or not. He just really tries to see the good in people.”
