Student Nomination Story
Kentrell Denman arrived in Columbus, Georgia because of his mom going to jail. He had no father figure present, which meant he was in the custody of many other people. He was mistreated, abused and when he started going to the North Columbus he got kicked out everyday because of his behavioral issues. He was fighting and cussing constantly, which became very exhausting to handle as his aunt. We knew he had to quickly readjust to a new scene. We stated taking him to counseling and other places, but nothing really helped. He still got kicked out of school due to his behavioral issues, so one day they called me and suggested they move him to Mrs. O's class. The first day he started her class, he immediately changed. Him acting out and getting into trouble stopped immediately. He is now able to count, recognize shapes and colors, and spell his name. He was not doing any of this before. I am very pleased with this teacher as she turned a child around from darkness to light. Knowing he is happy and always ready to go to school, is truly wonderful to see. He always tells me I love my teacher because she is so nice and helps me a lot. With everything she has done for this child, she deserves being nominated for the best teacher! My nephew no longer has behavioral issues and he is such a happy child now. I truly thank God for Mrs. O as she has been such a stress reliever for Kentrell and myself. We thank her so much for taking the time to make sure he learns what he needs to know!
