Student Nomination Story

At the start of the 2020 school year, everyone was a little nervous and skeptical about how the school year would go with wearing masks all day and bringing our shields to class, but Mrs. Brouse assured us we could get through it. I had Mrs. Brouse first period and she always had a smile on her face and made sure she told everyone good morning as we walked into the classroom. She did everything she could to make us feel comfortable and safe in class. A couple of weeks into the school year I got into a car accident and I kept getting sent home for a concussion. She would always make sure I was doing okay. Not too long after that, I switched to remote learning. About a week after I started remote learning, my family was forced to move. We were not expecting the move so we were not prepared. It was hard for me to get internet for a couple of days. I emailed my guidance counselor and all my teachers about the issue. All the teachers took points off my assignments for being late and for me not attending the online classes. All except for Mrs. Brouse. She graded my papers like they were turned in on time and did not get made that I was unable to attend the online meetings. As a junior in high school I stress about grades and timelines for everything, so I was beyond grateful for that. A couple of weeks have gone by since then and Mrs. Brouse still emails me making sure that I am okay and telling me that I did a wonderful job getting through everything. I was feeling a little down about everything and that really lifted my spirits. She does not know how much she means and how much she helps a lot of students. One of my favorite things about Mrs. Brouse's class is that she makes her online class meeting so much fun. Most teachers just sit there and talk and then end class. Not Mrs. Brouse. Zhe starts class by asking everyone how they are doing and gives the online students some information we would have originally missed out on since we aren't at school and do not hear the school's morning announcements. I remember the one time during an online meeting someone's cat walked across the screen and we all laughed and then everyone started showing off their pets. It was a great way to destress during this hard time. All in all, Mrs. Brouse is my absolute favorite teacher. She does so much for her students and makes sure everyone is doing alright. If they aren't she does whatever she can to help them. Without her, I would not enjoy school as much as I do.
