Kati Shives

Hello, this is Harish Ravichandran from Community House Middle School here to nominate my teacher, Mrs. Shives, for teacher of the year. Out of the many teachers that I have been with through my educational experience, only a few have truly touched my heart. But, the one who really took me and helped was the teacher who introduced me to the wonderful world of music, Mrs. Shives. Let me tell you something about why she is SUCH a great teacher. Once you really get to know her, there's this feeling every time she walks into this room that makes you feel like the day is going to be amazing even when you're having a rough start. She always has a joke up her sleeve to make you laugh and teases you when you're getting cocky. She has this way of getting the class on track that I can't really describe as anything other than a pure student to teacher connection. She offers tutoring and even does one on one to help us even if its in the middle of the class. She has fun activities to help us play. She really makes us feel like a team. If a student is disobeying then she becomes stern, but not in a bad way. It's in a way where you know the love is there. All in all, she makes learning really fun and I bet anything that all of her students are going to remember and love her for the rest of their lives.
