Student Nomination Story

Ms. Verdon was my 6th grade teacher, and I am proud to have had her. I connected with her in ways that no other teacher had. During my time in her classes, I had many rough and difficult times, but she was able to help me with the bond that we had. At the end of 6th grade, our class went to Shedd Aquarium on Chicago, Illinois. Ms. Verdon and I had so much fun, and we learned a lot together. I was sad that I had to leave her when I moved to 6th grade, but we kept in touch. Before Christmas of 2020, I wanted to see her., but because of COVID-19, it wasn't possible. I contacted her on Google Hangouts and told her Merry Christmas. I asked her what she was doing for Christmas, and she said she was dropping presents off at her family's houses. I told her, "What about me? Aren't I family?" She replies with this: "That's true. Your like my adopted son." When I saw that, my heart lightened and I felt like I was the luckiest person to have a teacher like that. When I showed my mom what Ms. Verdon's reply was, she said, "Aww. I guess you two had a bond stronger than I thought." I remember in class one day, a student was goofing off, and she roasted him. Ms. Verdon asked a question to a math problem. The student said the wrong answer, so when she said no that is incorrect, he jumped up from his chair and dramatically dropped to the floor. Ms. Verdon roasted him by saying, "If you don't stop jumping up and down on the floor, I will super glue your bottom to your chair so you can't do it again."
