Student Nomination Story

Mr. Staublin is the best teacher I have ever had in my many years of going to school. He has this teaching method that I believe more teachers should adapt and use. What he does is he'll start the class with a warm up and it will either be SAT practice or a little blurb of what we'll learn that day. He has us attempt the problems, we go over the answers, and then we get into notes about the new topic. Our taking notes process is the students following along and writing down everything he is writing and we can ask him any questions we have along the way or have him slow down. After notes, he has us do a worksheet about what we learned in class and what we don't finish we may do at home. The worksheet for us, is pretty much optional, we are in charge of our learning, if a student feels they need the extra practice, he urges them to do so. The class is very open, we're allowed to do as we please, we can work with other students to solve problems and work together, use our phones, work with him one on one, he'll even play music. Sometimes if the class doesn't have much to do we'll talk about random things, like his kids or future classes to take. And he is the most supportive man I've ever met, he supports every single one of his students with their sexuality, culture, disability and life choices. He treats all of his students the same and doesn't play any favoritism. I would very much be a much different person if I had never had his class. He has made me a better person, he's made me want to stand up for what I believe in and follow my dreams. He also makes me happy, because he cares about me and my life. He once asked me how my visit went at our school's career center and I told I had decided to do culinary and that made me feel great because no one had asked me about it. I wanted to tell someone that I'd decided a career path and I didn't have to be the one to tell him first, he asked me about it first. He has made learning an impossible subject like Algebra 2 enjoyable. He makes learning for my dyslexic friend easy and enjoyable, and understandable for our Thai exchange student and easy for everyone. He does more than teach in fact, he cares and puts personality into his classroom. Students feel safe in his classroom. In fact, he actually has free pads and tampons for girls to use whenever they need, and many girls I know have used his. There is no better teacher out there than this man. Now if he saw that I wrote that he'd be touched and then try to argue that there are better but I think about a hundred other students would agree with me on this. This shows how honestly humble he is and that fact that he was a top engineer and he gave that all up to teach high schoolers and is incredibly passionate about it, says a lot about the man he is.
