Student Nomination Story
My name is Tyler, a current 8th grader, who moved from AL back to GA. I unfortunately was a victim of mental abuse and unable to speak my mind. I was unable to have a personality outside of school, until I met my teacher, I call, Jones. She was strict and unmovable. She could tell I disliked her from the start. Jones would correct you not in a way that didn’t make you feel bad but in a way that would make you think. She corrected you intellectually with long unpronounceable words that we didn’t know. I began to understand that her strictness was nothing more than just having order in here class. So, I eventually drew to liking her as a teacher. I did my work and was the best student I could be. As the year went on, we became closer and our personalities seemed to match. Sometimes throughout the day I would come back to her class even when I wasn’t supposed to, just to pop in and say hi. I didn’t like P.E, so sometimes she would give me a pass to come in and talk during her free period. She would allow me to just get anything out that I wanted to talk about. She didn’t know this at the time, but those talks acted as therapy for me because of what I had gone through in my life. Also, one thing I will never forget is the time I walked up to her desk to ask her about what my grade was and she told me because she had not put any of my zeros in. Before I could get to my desk tears began to fall, and to this day every time I think about it tears fall. I could have really failed that year. Ms. Jones proved to me that becoming a teacher was her true calling. She is not only an amazing teacher but also a phenomenal human being. She was the light that I needed to help me realize myself. Eventually though, I had to leave her class as the end of the year was near. I thought I might never see Jones again, but then she asked me to be a part of the yearbook committee. I was overfilled with joy. I was able to be with her the entire year getting out of boring classes, taking pictures, and having the best first year of high school ever. When you want to know what a good teacher looks like I would suggest looking at Ms. Jones as an example. That’s just how extremely amazing she is as a teacher. I could have never asked for better.
