Student Nomination Story
Mr. Garner, who we like to call Sensei, runs my school's Japanese Culture Club. Last year I met him through a friend of mine and he quickly welcomed me into his "clan" of students who adopted him as their selected adult. I joined the club and now help make sure it runs smoothly, but it wouldn't be possible without him. Sensei is probably the most caring teacher I've ever met. He always goes out of his way to make others happy, make sure their comfortable, and make them feel welcome. My friends and I come to his class every day, even if it's just for two minutes in between a class so we can say hi and update him on our day. I truly believe that I wouldn't be as happy as I am if it wasn't for him. Last year, I went through a rough patch with my mental health and he was there to help me through it, even if that only meant giving me advice or letting me rant to him. This year, I decided to write a book and Sensei has been a driving force in my motivation. He is always encouraging me and giving me advice that keeps me going. I believe that he deserves to be acknowledged as the amazing teacher and person he is.
