Student Nomination Story
It all started when I came in a week late for my freshmen year. I was in the counselor's office with my mom and we were signing up for classes. One of the classes I had to take was a foreign language. I wanted Arabic. Arabic was already full, how about Somali, Somali was full. So I chose Spanish 1. I remember being really really nervous and anxious stepping into my new set of classes especially Spanish because I didn't know any Spanish (unless you count hola, adios, uno, dos, tres) but Ms. Buzzelli's class was open to new language learners like me. I don't really remember my first day of 9th grade but I remember Ms. Buzzelli's class. We watched "Puedo ir al bano" on Senor Wooly, I set up a Spanish journal, and we learned new Spanish words that I never heard before. That very first day in her class was the day I fell in love with learning Spanish. We would do fun activities such as quizziz, kahoot, activities at senorwooly.com, RLP's (Responsible Learner Points), and many more fun activities that made me love Spanish and actually understand it. When the Covid-19 pandemic hit, that didn't stop Ms. Buzzelli from teaching quality lessons in Spanish and me from growing my love of Spanish through her class. Now, I learn Spanish for fun on Duolingo with a 500-day streak, even though I don't take a language class as a PSEO (college) student because Ms. Buzzelli actually made learning Spanish fun, with no pressure, and informational. Ms. Buzzelli is a huge influence in me learning Spanish and new things in general. Before Ms. Buzzelli's class, I knew basically no Spanish; when I left her class, I fell in love with the language. I never got to convey my gratitude and appreciation to Ms. Buzzelli early on which is a regret. But now that I have the opportunity to do so by writing my appreciation and nominating her for an award, it's amazing. And what better day than Random Acts of Kindness day to show my gratitude to Ms. Buzzelli. Ms. Buzzelli, thank you. (I am more than happy to answer additional questions about my awesome teacher, Ms. Buzzelli if you have any.) Thanks to everyone :)
