Student Nomination Story

Educator Essay By Dylan Dorow It was my second day at Arrowhead High School as a freshman attending classes and meeting new people. I still vividly remember looking at my schedule and seeing “Foundations of Algebra-1” thinking to myself, I don't need help with Algebra, this is a waste of time. When walking into the classroom, Mrs.Teifentheir greeted me with a nice big smile making me feel warm and welcomed. Throughout the first semester, I still believed that I didn't need the class and extra practice, but Mrs. T still greeted me with a big smile every day. I soon realized how great Mrs.T really was. She not only taught me math, but was always there for me when an equation was too tricky to figure out. She was there for me when studying for finals. She was there for me when test questions were hard. I soon learned later that year Mrs.T was not only a great teacher but a loving mother. I learned about her family and kids, remembering her talk about her weekend soccer tournaments for her daughter. Mrs. T constantly put others before herself in the classroom, with me, and with her family. I started to enjoy coming to her class every day knowing that she was always there for me when things got tough. In her classroom, I didn't feel ashamed or stupid when asking a question because she always wanted to help. When listening to Mrs.T teach you could tell that she enjoys teaching math. Mrs. T helped me plan for my future in math. She helped me study and prepare for later math classes. Even after finishing her classes, I still use some of her strategies and tricks to help me with courses today. She impacted how I study for quizzes and tests, making me successful throughout high school.
