Student Nomination Story

Mr. Custodio was a great teacher during my time at Ione Jr High. He was clear in his teaching and actually made learning fun. One time we were learning about Roman architecture and he started doing a little dance and started singing "I like big buttresses and I can not lie." I used to do very poorly in school due to severe anxiety and depression and i would miss school a lot. When I missed days Mr. Custodio would help me catch up not just on history homework but homework for my other classes as well. It was easy to tell Mr. Custodio had a true passion for teaching he made every single class informational and exciting. Mr. Custodio gave teaching his all and he never ever took a sick day. Mr. Custodio also cared deeply for every single one of his students, one day me and my friend were dressing sharper than usual and he pulled us aside to ask what the special occasion was and it really made my day that someone had noticed. Mr. Custodio inspired me to do better in school and to be a better person. Mr. Custodio was also very understanding and supportive of my gender identity , sexuality, and religion; his classroom always felt like a safe space.
