Student Nomination Story
Mr. Hoch was always a fun teacher. My freshman year at Arrowhead was a tough year. My grandpa who I was really close with passed away the summer going into freshman year. I was struggling in school, all of my classes were extremely boring and hard. None of my teachers were as nice and as fun as Mr. Hoch. Mr. Hoch graduated from Arrowhead and played basketball at Carroll University. He is second in total points at Carroll University. He is the best basketball player I have ever seen. I don’t know anything about basketball, but Mr. Hoch never missed. It was always fun to watch him embarrass the current basketball players in a gym class game. I had Mr. Hoch for gym class and health. Even though Health class is more of a classroom setting, he made it such a fun class to go to. We did a lot of partner activities which were very fun. The kicked back style of teaching that Mr. Hoch taught was very fun. Most teachers are very serious when it comes to teaching. Mr. Hoch’s way was more engaging and I actually learned more from that style of teaching rather than the traditional style. I sat by the light switch in the class. Everytime the lights needed to be shut off, he would say, “Louie, hit the lights!” It became a class joke and was always funny. I would always come to Mr. Hoch’s Health class from Math and English. So health was a nice class to decompress from those boring and hard classes. Mr. Hoch always asked me about hockey and how I was doing. Everyday in class whether it was first and second hour gym or ninth and tenth hour health, he would always have a conversation with me. Gym class will always be better than other classes, but the teacher can make or break the class. Mr. Hoch made gym class so fun to be a part of. It has been my favorite class that I've taken at Arrowhead so far. I wish I could go back and take Health and Gym with Mr. Hoch.
