Student Nomination Story
Coach Eisenman By Sophia Hirschfeld, grade 11 Coach E came to Arrowhead the summer I was going into sophomore year; I remember seeing him and the other coaches that came with him and being scared. A bunch of new big guys to make me run and lift at their command; oh, the joy I felt in my heart at 6:30am on a Monday in the summer. It didn’t take long until Coach E grew on me. He really pushes kids to do their best, while still encouraging them. He never misses a chance to sincerely compliment any of us, even if what we are lifting is only 10% of what he can lift. And when I say 10%, you would probably be surprised by how accurate that is. Even though he doesn’t look like literal Superman anymore, he still has muscle left. He can get just about anyone to laugh, and has lots of stories to tell. He will talk to you about anything. When I was injured with a torn ACL, Coach E had lots of sympathy for me. He put so much time into helping me too. He encouraged me to try to still stay in shape as much as I could, and for many months, he made special workouts for me. This must have taken a lot of patience. He told me about when he had a boot on, and lifted with one leg. At first, I thought, why would I want one leg to be bigger than the other? But thanks to him, I eventually had more muscle after surgery in that leg than before. Coach E writes ridiculous things on the papers that he puts my workouts on like, “Six-Pack Sophie.” Which, by the way, I do not have a six pack and am not trying to get one. He will explain exercises to me over and over again, because I’m not the greatest at remembering what they are. If I ever left out one of his workouts, he would throw it away; I’m still not sure why. Some other kids and I started hiding all of his extra workouts he makes us. They’re worth keeping. Coach E is always happy to see his Warhawk Sports Performance people, and loves his job. If you ever need a pair of spikes, go see him; he looks out for good deals just for his kids. Once, I was struggling to grip onto a pair of dumbbells, so he let me use his grip things; this was so that I could focus more on the bulgarian split squat than not dropping the weights. The next day or so, he had bought me my own pair! No, he is not rich. You could come to him with the most random thing, and he would do his best to help. I’m not sure why he likes to spend time with quirky teenagers so much, but he truly supports us and genuinely cares. I love how much he encourages others and I. We all respect him, so it means a lot. I could be wrong, but I think sometimes he especially cheers us on when we are having a rough day. He goes beyond his job title description for sure. There honestly is so much more to be said, but I only have about 500 words of room. Thank you Coach E; I’m so extremely grateful I get to run and lift at your command. Your impact on all of us is irreplaceable.
