Student Nomination Story

Hello, I am a 10th grade student who loves to learn about math. I also enjoy playing soccer for fun. I'm trying to get better at working out and making myself more confident. There’s actually a teacher who changed my life. This special teacher opened my eyes and made me view school differently. My attitude toward school before I met my teacher was that I really didn't enjoy going. I wasn't always the child who was outgoing. I got bullied in kindergarten and my first two years in elementary. The reason was because I was really shy at school and scared to ask questions when I didn't understand the school subject. Of course, I made friends which made my day better and I loved to do group work, but overall I wasn’t always this bright and sometimes outgoing child. My biggest challenges before meeting my teacher was as I said earlier I was scared to speak up. I know everyone has been scared to meet their new teachers because it is something new. This teacher is special to me because she taught me how to be confident about my answers and how to not be scared to speak out loud. Thanks to her, now I can solve math problems quickly and am not afraid to answer questions. This special teacher helped me by opening my eyes in this subject and overall opening my eyes for school. This made me think school really did have a purpose. To this day, I believe I have notes I took in her class. When I knew I was good in math, I was so happy and thankful. Things this special teacher did that stuck with me is making me speak up and overall pushing me to my full potential. Everyday I believe we had homework or had homework due on Fridays, and I remember I always got my work done. But one day she asked the class who did their homework and I remember only 8 people did the work. Thank god I was one of them because she was SO nice to us. I felt good because I know I did the right thing by doing my work. Also, thanks to her I got really good at math in 8th grade. She was my teacher for two years and I'm thankful she was because she taught me a lot. As well as, I am so grateful for her because she really taught me how to be confident in myself and just made me push everyday to get better at something. I am really truly thankful because even though she was only my teacher for a year, she taught me so many things that year. Sometimes I was scared to speak up in her class but I pushed myself as she taught me. My point of view of school is I enjoy going and learning new information about math. I look at school differently now as I see there's actually a MAIN purpose by going to school. Of course, there's some days where you sometimes don’t feel like going, but I push myself to be the best! Yes, my dreams for my future have changed and the reason why I am in STEM is because of this special teacher. I joined STEM because this academy has math and engineering. I also want to have an engineering career because it contains my favorite subject. In conclusion, I am VERY thankful and really wish the best to this teacher. I hope new students in her class will take this opportunity and ask her questions because she will really helps out students who need to get better at math.
