Amanda Williams

Mrs. Williams is my favorite teacher that I've ever had. I've never been a science person, in fact, I always hated science. But Mrs. Williams' class is without a doubt my favorite. Mrs. Williams has helped me in a personal way. She made an effort to get to know me at the start of the school year, that's why she's so approachable. I feel more comfortable when asking her questions or for advice. Even outside the classroom, I feel like she is helping me. She knows I like to drink tea throughout the day and offered to bring a Keurig for me to use so I can drink tea during school. Mrs. Williams's efforts to know me personally make it easier in the classroom because I know a little bit about her, and she knows a little bit about me. Mrs. Williams is an outstanding teacher. With most teachers, it's usually "read this and fill this out". In her class, she takes time to walk us through things and has no problem helping us if we don't understand. SDHS has a future-ready Institute of Business and Entrepreneurship. She is the only one out of my teachers that really involves this in her assignments. Everything we do, she can relate to business and marketing, and still involve her environmental science aspect. When she teaches us, it's like she's having a conversation instead of a lecture. She talks to us and not at us. She is involving us in an educational conversation rather than teaching us the material is better because as students we feel like she is genuinely trying to make sure we know and understand. Mrs. Williams knows what I want to do, and has helped me so much to make sure I'm involved in that kind of stuff. Theater arts was not on my schedule but I am definitely a theater person so she helped me find a time to be able to be apart of forensics. I told her that I want to become a Psychiatrist, so she told me the kind of classes I should take and how I can be involved in some medical based classes, even though SDHS is not a medical-based school. Overall, Mrs. Williams is a phenomenal teacher in ALL areas. She is really wonderful and 100% deserves this teacher award. My mother is a teacher, so I have grown up around them my entire life, and I have NEVER met a teacher more deserving of this award.
