Student Nomination Story
I believe Grade School are the years that form your child’s love or hate for school. These are the years your child forms friendships, as well as learning their fundamentals that they will use their whole lives. My child is a strong willed child. He’s often labeled “difficult” and when he’s done with something he’s done. There’s no talking him into trying again for the rest of that day! Second grade was a bad year. Him and the teacher didn’t click, and we struggled EVERY.DAY getting him to school and I was constantly getting notes asking to “talk” to my child about his behavior. It was awful. I may have wanted the school year to be over more than him. Fast forward to this year. Third grade. The year with Mrs. Hoffman. She has sparked his love for reading, wanting to go to school, and really showing his amazing qualities. Mrs. Hoffman sees the potential and pulls it to the surface. She doesn’t highlight the negativity- she sends me notes about how he’s progressing. She encourages him to keep going and to keep growing. She has a system in the class that you earn “money” and use it to purchase gifts or privileges. She mixes up the seating so he’s not always in the “naughty kids table”. She’s given him a chance and a new start, as well as giving me a great appreciation for her! I don’t think she will ever understand how giving my child a fresh start has given him a jump start that will continue on with him through school. This amazing year of third grade has erased the awful year we had in second grade! She has a true gift of teaching and understands ALL kids and adapts her teaching and classroom to accommodate them all! She’s a calm teacher that handles issues quietly and level headed. There’s no screaming or shaming. She treats all the kids like her own kids and truly loves them all. She goes above and beyond for all kids and she deserves any and all recognition available. To be able to turn a child’s impression of school completely around within the first month of school is not something that every teacher can do! Mrs. Hoffman is an amazing teacher for our school and we are so lucky to have her! My child talks about her constantly and all the fun things they get to do in her class, all while learning! Mrs Hoffman has figured out the secret to teaching and she brings out the best in all the children and for that, I will forever be grateful to her!
