Student Nomination Story

Teri is extremely organized, engaging, patient and puts in a ridiculous number of hours. She has single handedly created curriculum that reaches both kinders and 1st graders in a combination of zoom meetings, printed work, experiments, and online learning sites. Teri starts the kids with a daily all-class meeting to promote socialization and encourage emotional health. The rest of the day she is in non-stop zooms engaging kids within their grade, within their small group, and one-on-one time with each student. She must learn how to hold her pee the entire day because she really does not give herself a break! Teri has moved intense planning and grading into her evenings and weekends to provide parents with plans and resources 1-2 weeks in advance. I don't know how she does it, but even with all of that, Teri is quick to notice when my son is zooming ahead and finds new ways to challenge and excite him as an individual. I struggle with bipolar depression and somehow, even with all of the time demands on her plate, even without her knowing my diagnoses, she was able to recognize that I was struggling and was quick to give me extra support. My son has health issues that put him at high-risk with Covid and is struggling emotionally with the isolation. I just don't know how we would have made it through this horrible year without her going above and beyond for my family. She is a whole-child teacher and determined that all of her families not only survive the school year, but thrive in the midst of a pandemic. Teri has been on the receiving end of parents' harsh frustration and responded with an admirable amount of care and respect despite abuse. With getting so little thanks throughout a crazy year, it would be a blessing to recognize her gift of service and love to so many.
