Shawnda Garcia

Mrs. Garcia is a mother, wife, teacher and an active member of the community. She has taught thousands of students and has positively impacted them all. I do not know of any other teachers in this area that buy their students clothes or shoes when needed. Holland Public Schools is home to at-risk students coming from homes of trauma. Mrs. Garcia takes the time to listen to these students and invest in them. Mrs. Garcia helps her grown students with college applications and remains a positive figure in their lives even after they have left her classroom. She has every type of student imaginable ranging from gang members to homeless students. Each day comes with a new set of challenges yet she manages to surpass them all with a smile on her face. Her impact on the community has gone unrecognized for too long and I would love to give her the recognition she deserves.
