Student Nomination Story

As a Pakistani Muslim growing up in the post 9-11 world, I was often nervous going through the school system. I had always come in conflict with many teachers and administrators because I thought I did not have a place in this country. My outlook changed when I landed in Ms. Fanelli’s 10th grade English class. She was someone who went above and beyond to make sure I knew all aspects of the English language. Her imagination, outlook, and empathy not only made me succeed as a student but as a human being. She gave me acceptance and always helped me whenever I required so. I credit my success to the time I spent with Ms. Fanelli because she cares for all of her students no matter who you are or what you believe in. She is what makes this country great and I’m honored to have had her as my teacher. Thank you for reading this!
