Student Nomination Story

Mrs.Cochran By Haylie Peterson The first day of first grade was a scary day for me because we started having homework that entailed more than just learning our letters and coloring pictures. That was until I met Mrs. Cochran she is short with brown hair and a slight attitude about her. I remember I walked into the classroom to see all of the kids talking to each other. I was a really shy kid so I walked in and sat down by myself. When Mrs. Cochran noticed that I was sitting alone she walked up to me and gave me a caring smile, which made me feel a lot better. I hated doing homework because it was always too easy for me, well Mrs. Cochran had this system of extra work called “extra-mile” and if you did extra work outside of class you could be the “King” or “Queen” of extra-mile, that title came with a piece of paper that said “King or Queen of extra-mile” and your name on it and a pack of smarties. One of the things that I loved the most about her was how she believed in me even when I didn’t and she would never let me give up when I was having a tough time. I would be annoyed with something that I couldn’t figure out how to do and she would always say “never give up, keep trying.” To this day I can still hear her saying that phrase every time I want to give up on something. At the end of the year, I was sad to leave her class but I realized that I could still visit her whenever I had the time. And that's what I did the rest of my elementary school career and even some of my middle school time. Mrs. Cochran will always hold a special place in my heart because she was one of the most caring and fun teachers I ever had, and she never gave up on me. Thank you Mrs. Cochran for helping me become the person that I am today!
