I had Mrs. Shalash as a teacher approximately 9 years ago, and looking back, she is one teacher who genuinely made a difference in my life. I will be student teaching in less than a month and will be graduating with a Bachelors degree in Middle Level Education in May. I will be the first person in my family to graduate with a Bachelors, and I owe a lot to the teachers, like Mrs. Shalash, who shaped me into the person I am today. She genuinely cared about the person I would become, and she taught from the heart and not from the book.
I feel like she is the reason why I developed such a love for the Spanish language, and I am grateful for that. She taught with such enthusiasm, and I always felt loved, cared for, and supported. As a pre-service teacher, I view her as a role model, and I only hope that I can be half as great of a teacher as she is one day because she is truly exceptional.
Her light shines brightly at Century, and she has one of the kindest hearts. She is truly a gold star teacher who deserves a standing ovation. She chooses kind on a daily basis, and that should be acknowledged.
I am lucky to be one of her former students, and I will be thinking of her when I walk down the stage in May. Teachers, unfortunately, do not hear many words of gratitude, but they deserve to. Mrs. Shalash will always hold a special place in my heart, and I would not be where I am today without her.
Please consider her for this award. She absolutely deserves it.
