National Teaching Award Nominee
Laura Kidd
Clarke Moore's Middle School, Richmond, Kentucky
Student Nomination Story
As a college student who is majoring in Special Education Elementary grades Learning and Behavioral Disorders at Eastern Kentucky University, I am required to have a placement in secondary education, which I was very skeptical and nervous about. After being placed in Mrs. Kidd's classroom after the first day, I was no longer afraid but instead ecstatic and inspired. Mrs. Kidd works to provide the best learning experience for every student in her classroom. As a Special Education teacher she works with a wide range of students from various backgrounds. Mrs. Kidd provides an engaging and meaningful learning experience and encourages students to be the best that they can be. She provides students with incentives for learning and is a lovable teacher by students even outside of her class. As a Junior I am nearing the end of my college experience and beginning to look for jobs within my field; Mrs. Kidd has gone out of her way to look for opportunities and provide contacts for me. "You have been a pleasure to work with, I wish I could have you in my classroom forever," Mrs. Kidd frequently reminds me. I have never met someone as encouraging as Mrs. Kidd! "Some students come to school to learn, others come to school to be loved," Mrs. Kidd is a teacher that fully fulfills both of these criteria for being a wonderful teacher. She is truly deserving of receiving teacher of the year!
