Student Nomination Story
I am Marisol Lambrecht a Junior from Alamo Heights High School. I began the year in APUSH where I struggled academically to learn and maintain the information that was being taught. At the semester and after sitting down with my academic counselor we decided that it would be a great idea to switch into grade level US history with Coach Thompson. I had heard of coach Thompson because he is the high school baseball coach and my brother plays baseball so he wasn't unheard of. So it's the first day of the second semester and I walk into Coach Thompsons class extremely scared. I walk in and I am greeted with the biggest hello and felt so extremely welcomed and I knew he was here to help me. After he did the introductions for the day he walked over to my desk and told me that he was here to help me and that we would work together to make sure I retained all the information that I was being taught. While most teachers and Coaches care about simply getting the job done Coach Thompson takes it further than that to try and engage his students into wanting to truly enjoy what they are learning. It doesn't matter if it is raining, hot, humid, or freezing cold he is always at the door greeting his students with high fives and fist bumps. From the way he treats his kids when they enter the classroom to the way he simply checks on each student individually during class makes Coach Thompson an outstanding candidate for this award.
