Heather Ortiz
Chaparral Elementry School, Albuquerque, New Mexico
Student Nomination Story
My daughter is a student of Chaparral Elementary School located in Albuquerque, New Mexico. We would like to nominate First grade teacher Mrs. Ortiz for the teacher of the year award. Since the beginning of the 2019 - 2020 school year Mrs. Ortiz has gone above and beyond for her whole class. She has been teaching for 18 years and it shows, this year has not been easy for anyone in this world but Mrs. Ortiz sure made it easy for my daughter to learn during the COVID-19 crisis. Since the beginning of the crisis Mrs. Ortiz has kept in contact with us every single day sometimes even on the weekends she has went out of way on multiple occasions by bringing our daughter her school supplies to our home and regardless of how far she is my daughter feels like she’s still right there especially during google meet classes . I admire how she has made our daughter know that she is still capable of learning regardless if there is a classroom or not. I cannot express in words how Mrs. Ortiz shows her gratitude for her children in her classroom. With the school you’re coming to an end we really just wanted to show appreciation to Mrs. Ortiz by nominating her for this lovely award. All the staff at Chaparral Elementry including Mrs. Ortiz herself has made learning during a crisis one of the best experiences we could have ever had regardless of the circumstances. We hope she gets the nomination and we really want her to be recognized as a teacher who soars above and beyond for the education of her student. Thank you Mrs. Ortiz for all that you do and encouraging children that education is more important than anything even during the most difficult times.
