Student Nomination Story
Our 9 year old suffers from anxiety, it has intensified over the past year in many ways. She does have separation anxiety and we were having difficulty with her going into school. We would sit outside until she would eventually go in, most days, but if it wasn't for the help of Beth Misslehorn and Alexis Bruder, we wouldn't be as far ahead as we are now. Beth has been in constant communication with me and offered McKaela a "Teachers Assistant role" where I drop her off at school at 7:30am, and she goes in and helps Beth with printing papers, preparing an activity for the 1st grade class, as well as has her go to read to the 1st graders during recess. All of this time spent, and the support and encouragement and outside of the box thinking, has stopped hours of difficult mornings for our daughter McKaela. It has led to a greater quality of life for us as her parents as well. To have someone spend this additional time for my child, to help her feel secure and overcome some of these situations, improved daily life. My husband and I were at a breaking point, watching her suffer with this, trying to be understanding and patient, but ensure she gets to school and shines through. We could not be where we are without Beth. She already works a ton of hours at school and at home, and does this solely because she cares so much. She also lets our younger daughter Sophia go in with McKaela, since I drop them both off at that time... I can't say enough about her or relay how much she has done to help all of us.
