Student Nomination Story

I have a learning disability, it has always caused me problems with my grades and in the classroom. It left me with low self esteem and a poor view on the world. It is something that will likely affect me for the entirety of my educational career. But during my freshman year of high-school when I had Coach Monaghen, I felt so engaged with the way he taught. I was able to make fast connections and actually understand what was being taught to me on a deeper level. It was not only due to my personal interest in the subject, but the way that Coach Monaghen taught with passion, and like he actually cared about a decent education. Not all teachers are like that. I thrived in that classroom and it was the place where I felt the most motivated to get things done and go above and beyond with completing my work. I felt capable of doing something for once. That is a genuine feeling that I have never, ever had with any other teacher. I have never respected anyone more, I have never looked up to someone more, and I don't think I ever will. At some point in my life I would like to be an educator myself. Coach Monaghen sets the standard for what I believe teaching should be. Education occurs during one of the most developmentally fundamental parts of our lives and I cannot stress how important dedicated teachers are. I can truly and honestly say that Coach Monaghen has impacted my life in a way that I will remember forever. He is absolutely more than deserving of this award.
